NCC was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee by the Registrar of Companies on the 15th March 2019, on the same principles like the East African Union Ltd of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
The incorporation, which had been awaited for long, was received with great joy and excitement by many Seventh Day Adventists who long to see better leadership of the church in this country and region.
All current and potential members of NCC are Seventh Day Adventists who believe in the mission of the church as per the biblical teaching and subscribe to the church doctrines as well as other various policies of the church.
So the propaganda which is being peddled around by our church leadership that NCC is a splinter group of the church and that it is a mere business enterprise is false and should be ignored. The leadership of NCC is developing policies, programmes and activities intended to restore the mission of the church in this region and address the challenges which have affected this church for many years.
The members of NCC have come together desirous of undertaking the work and mission of God given to them but this can best be achieved when members are empowered spiritually, materially and financially.
Over the years, NCC members have witnessed with dismay how the church leadership has lost focus of the church mission and veered off the course to concentrate on earthly pursuits towards personal gain such as; pursuing higher church positions viewed to have more personal privileges; forever pursuing more academic degrees to qualify them for higher church positions; misapplication of church funds for selfish purposes besides dividing church members along ethnic lines to achieve the intended earthly objectives.
A keen observation on the management of any church institution will reveal that our church schools, colleges, universities, hospital clinics, etc have not only become employment opportunities for close relatives of church leaders, qualifications notwithstanding, but have also become cash cows for the church leadership and their relatives. The principle of accountability in the management of church property is never practiced by the church leaders. In Burundi, church leaders have been imprisoned for misappropriating church funds and assets besides other vices. This experience in Burundi can apply in Kenya if our church leaders were to be investigated. Accountability of church finances does not exist. Church funds move only one way – up. That is the reason many local churches are dilapidated, old structures which never get assistance from high offices of the church. We believe God never intended that SDA church members worship in such poor state of structures. It is the plan and desire of NCC to establish a model institution which embraces all good tenets of church mission, good governance, integrity, accountability and unity. NCC has been established to help pool resources which will enable its members to achieve its objectives.
NCC has received overwhelming endorsement not only from the SDA faithful in its territory of Nairobi and Kajiado stations but also from across Kenya and the world, especially in the United States. An NCC chapter has already been established in the US in support of this conference and to coordinate its activities there. However, the formation of NCC will definitely face serious opposition from its adversaries at its infancy but we appeal to members and those yet to register to hold to the promises of God as recorded in the Book of 2 Chronicles 20:15 and Exodus 14: 13-14, with emphasis on verse 14. 2 Chronicles 20:15 “He said, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” Exodus 14:13-14, Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14, The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” NCC members will also be inspired by NCC theme songs MFALME YU MLANGONI and IT IS ALMOST TIME FOR THE LORD TO COME.
Nairobi Station in the Central Kenya local Conference is the largest station in East Kenya Union Conference. It is a unique constituency as its home to the great city of Nairobi. Nairobi Central SDA Church had more than seven thousand (7,000) as per the register vide Min. 5/CBM/27.11.2016 when the church was seeking to establish a conference encompassing Nairobi and Kajiado Stations. The business meeting had mandated the head eldership and pastorate to pursue the conference status by caucusing with the churches of the two stations for concurrence.
The Conference called the local church leaders of the two stations (Nairobi and Kajiado) for a meeting on 7th May 2017 whose single agenda was Realignment of Central Kenya Conference. In preparation for this meeting the head elders from Nairobi and Kajiado station churches met on 1st May 2017 at LMS Guest House and adopted the Nairobi Central Church resolution and agreed to present the proposal at posting of a new pastor to Nairobi Central Church in June 2018 turned out to be timing the church nominations that were around the corner. He was to finally use the exercise to divide the elders first and subsequently the congregation along ethnic lines for the sole purpose of placing in office a friendly eldership and church board. 7th May 2017 whose single agenda was Realignment of Central Kenya the 7th May 2017 meeting of the conference. Whereas the elders of the two stations prepared and assumed a common stand to seek creation of a new conference covering the two stations, the Conference meeting did not materialize.
In the meantime, at a meeting between the CKC Executive (President, Treasurer & Secretary) and the head elders of Nairobi Central SDA church held on 12th June 2017 to discuss the pastorate situation in the church, the CKC President intimated that he was aware of the meeting of the Nairobi and Kajiado stations elders and promised to grant them a hearing. That has not happened though the realignment of the conference is already concluded.
It is important to note that though Nairobi Station is very large both in membership and giving, it has remained a single station while smaller stations continue to be split into many smaller units. These are the units used during Conference elections to pick the number of delegates to the nominating committee. It is on this election background that Nairobi has been kept as a single station despite its contribution of about 55 percent in membership and 74 percent in giving. It is more about creating a loyal voting machinery and not guiding more souls to the Lord.
The hurried posting of a new pastor to Nairobi Central Church turned out to be timing the church nominations that were around the corner. He was to finally use the exercise to divide the elders first and subsequently the congregation along ethnic lines for the sole purpose of placing in office a friendly eldership and church board.
This again is focusing on the 2020 church elections with compliant voting delegates. It was also meant to divert the membership from the issue of the conference realignment. This Pastor together with his remaining associate have continued to sow seeds of mistrust that has brought irreparable division in the church, which has spilled over to the congregations in the Nairobi city and even Kajiado County churches in general along tribal lines.
The local conference, as expected, failed to act and bring reconciliation and healing and instead continued to engage in activities that continue to aggravate the situation. One is left with the impression that this is a Machiavellian classic of divide and rule as long as that aids in scuttling the demand for a conference for cosmopolitan Nairobi.
The creation of six (6) new stations in Mount Kenya region while Nairobi is left as one station in spite of the fact that the later has 328 churches, 65,500 members and a total annual giving of over Kenya Shillings 850 million through tithes, offerings and other funds, is a pointer to creating voting blocks in that region with an eye of next year’s elections. The six new stations in Mount Kenya are not done to enhance mission efficiency but rather increase delegates
A Whatsapp Group known as NCC One has also been created where all NCC members are being listed. Since whatsapp has some technical limitations on the number of members it can hold, a team is exploring a suitable platform. Membership is growing very fast and a suitable platform is therefore required urgently.
The Nairobi Cosmopolitan Conference is currently run by three directors and a supporting team of volunteers. These initial leaders are holding office on interim basis until a formal election is conducted by the members of the conference on a later date.
The membership of NCC will be both individual and corporate (churches). There will be no geographical limitations. Members and churches will be free to be members of NCC or CKC.
